"Its who thinks they know you"

Apparently the old saying "Its not what, its who you know" needs to be amended, because its more like "its who thinks they know you". In the previous post I said I'd talk about how the networking went last night. We get to the door unsure if our RSVP went through, so this guy J lies about whos list we are supposed to be on, then starts fumbling when the girl starts asking him extra shit. Luckily our RSVP was there and we got in. We get inside the place and start casing it for recognizable faces, and pretty much didn't see anything. We kinda slide in to the VIP area, and sat there like we belonged and it worked like a charm. People started talking to us, mistaking us for other people. We were in a reserved seating area for Universal/Motown and we used that to speak to different people ranging from Dj Enuff to executives from Paper Magazine. So after getting a few emails and biz card, we peeped Steve Rifkin (SRC CEO) and pretty much went in for the kill. J hit 'em with the "hey Steve was going on" bit. Talked to the guy like he knew him already and apparently that worked because he came out with his email. Then we ran in to Jay Brown ("Then I went and told Jay brown/Should of known that was gonna come back around"- kanye west "big brother") J hit him with the same number, even threw in a "you don't remember me?" confused the hell out of him. Jay had the only confused face, and i knew he wasn't tryna stick around because Jay-z was supposed to be on his way to the place. So i said "You remember we met you with Flo (sorry Flo i had to lol), from the American Gangster tour last year?" his mans cosigned and all of a sudden Jay Brown remembered us lol. The weird part is he gave us Lenny Santiago's (VP of A&R @ Island Def Jam)email instead of his. Oh well, i aint mad @ that...at all. We run into this girl who apparently is an artist in development at SRC, again J runs the line on her, this time adding that Steve told us to speak to her about submitting production. Shorty Stockton-Maloned him. "yeah go speak to meda about that". ouch. Just when it looked bleak tho, Meda showed up, and J hit her with the same shit lol. It worked tho and Meda gave us her email so we lucked out. We hung around after this for a bit to see if we can have anybody else remember us. We got a few more emails, stole the guest list, and bounced after that... then later on we hear jayz came...SMH, we shoulda stayed. next time hov...we'll get you next time. pewwnn...
